We have launched our Evidence of Innovation Volume 3. It shares clinical expertise and case studies from stoma care nurses around the world who have used Welland Medical products in varied situations.

We believe this sharing of knowledge is critical, and honours the spirit of Florence Nightingale: “The more experience we gain, the more progress we can make.” Experience shared is experience gained.

This year, 2020, is Nightingale’s bicentennial, and has been designated by the World Health Organisation as the global Year of the Nurse and Midwife. It seemed even more appropriate than usual to acknowledge the work that stoma nurses do and help share their experiences of what has worked.

As A. Wallace states in their article, Best practice management of peristomal pyoderma gangrenosum, published in the Journal of Community Nursing (2017): “There is a need for clinicians to share their treatment experiences to act as a guide for future best practice.” This can be extended to all aspects of stoma care.

What’s included?

Written by stoma care nurses, for healthcare professionals and other stoma care nurses in particular, this volume of our Evidence of Innovation includes case studies on:

• Managing peristomal skin complications (including using flange convexity to protect skin)

• Using a Manuka honey-infused flange in the management of peristomal pyoderma gangrenosum

• Stoma education for older ostomates

It also includes:
